  • 1.  Hello- looking for training materials

    Posted 09-13-2022 12:04
    Hello,

Does anyone have access or know of training resources for new Title Agents?

    Specifically on the following:

    • How to read Title Opinions
    • Produce and proof Title Commitments
    • Communication Tips + Need to know's concerning underwriters
    • Final Policy issuance protocols

    Thank you

    Garry,
I would start with your underwriter reps. In Texas, some of the underwriters will offer classes specific to your company.

    Hello James,

Thank you for the reply. Yes- you are correct about underwriters. However, I find they are not specific to on-the-job training. They focus on overview and review of standards/regulations, policies not so much operating procedures (step by step) and processes.

the Virginia Land Title Association has a 16 hour course for Certified Title Agent that is quite extensive and even as an experienced title agent, I found it to be an excellent source of information for any title professional.  Perhaps the NC Land Title Association has a similar program?

We have had to create our own procedures, but are also lacking in general training material to bring people to a baseline understanding of title and settlement work.  Really looking forward to others responding with possible resources.

    Hi Garry,

Please feel free to give me a call or email me directly.  My company specifically trains title employees, whether brand new to the industry or changing positions or simply a refresher.  We provide ono-on-one training, as well as group trainings.  Most of what we do can be done virtually.  I am an attorney who has been in the business for over 35 years and have decided to start sharing all of my experience and talent with other title companies.  I look forward to chatting.....

Most title underwriters have a library of seminars, webinars and other training materials to assist new agents in educating themselves on the need to know items that you identified. I applaud you for wanted to expand your knowledge and suggest that you start there.

    Hi everyone,
I also recommend you check to see what sort of training material your underwriter has available. They will most likely cover everything you need to know from a regulatory stand point.

I can help fill some blanks.

I'm just in the process of launching a new online school for the title industry (www.wickedtitleforum.com). I have a ton of content that will be rolling out over the next year (I know, not helpful to you right now) - but I've been making a lot of that content available through my private consulting - which is the part you might care about.

I offer consulting, training, information management and project management services to the title industry on marketing, technology & operations - this can include but is not limited to
    • staff training sessions
    • establishing and improving workflow, task management and quality assurance
    • software implementation and administration
    • business leadership training and strategy sessions
    • creation of custom training materials, operating manuals and online searchable knowledge bases
    • and more

Also, for anyone reading this - I am actively accepting instructors and anyone who would like to host a course on my platform. Courses can be large or small, public or private.

If you'd like to discuss any of this further, please feel free to contact me or schedule a meeting here:

I would suggest checking your local Land Title Association, which looks like it North Carolina Land Title Association for you.  I am in Colorado and that is where we go for training and classes.

You land title association would be a great place to look to as well.  I know that ours does boot camp trainings and they have it all recorded and accessible via the members portal on their website.

    Hi Garry,

Investors Title in North Carolina has some really good training resources. I'm not sure who your underwriters are, but I'd be happy to connect you with my counterpart in NC.

    Have a great day!

If there is anyone here who would be interested in participating in a shared online searchable knowledge base full of training material, videos, articles, step-by-step instructions, please contact me. It would be a more affordable way to create and share training material.

Sections of the knowledge base are shared between everyone involved - generic information, link lists, resources, etc. And then there are also sections that are visible only to the people who belong to a specific company so that you can have proprietary information as well.
