It's my personal opinion that lenders should be more open toward allowing buyers to assume payments on a previous mortgage, rather than invoking the "due on sale" clause. A simple change which could have positive effects immediately.

It's very interesting. I was in a situation where I would be in a foreign country at time of closing; & received the same lecture on the use of a notary at the US embassy; (I could not use a notary from anywhere else). I opted to postpone the foreign travel, in order to complete the transaction here ...
