Janis:
As always your insight is on point! I love it, sometimes fast and urgent do not necessarily "merge", but the important thing here is to do it properly, without compromising the quality of the end work, and if that means "you have to wait a bit" well, you will have to wait.

Subject: Urgent vs Important
Instant Approval! Same Day Delivery! Quick Service Meals! We sure do want everything NOW! In our industry, as in most things, our clients and customers demand and expect an almost instantaneous response. We are often faced with the question, "Do I do it quickly or correctly?" The correct answer seems to be YES to both, but we often have to manage expectations within the limits of personnel, time and circumstances. Here are some strategies to help us complete our tasks as quickly and efficiently as possible.
- For those important and urgent issues, we must triage and manage crises and pressing problems. We must learn to prioritize and delegate to maximize our efforts.
- For tasks that are important but not urgent, we should focus on strategies and values that facilitate the big picture.
- Situations that are urgent but less important, we learn to avoid interruptions and busy work. Determine what is or is not our emergency and minimize our time investment.
- Finally, the everyday unimportant or non-urgent functions must be limited to bypass what is trivial and wasteful.
Implementing these strategies is simple, but not always easy. That's why we put them into practice. We can learn to reasonably set and meet expectations, while protecting our time (and sanity).
