    Does anyone know if you can verify a Seller's SS# through IRS? And if so how and how much does it cost per person?

    Hi Connie,

    As you know, we verify SSN's and EIN's as part of our TIN matching process. Some companies have us do TIN matching on a quarterly basis so they can deal with the mismatches currently. There is no additional charge for that.

    Hi Connie,

    I use www.tincheck.com. They have two options for payment. You can either pay a monthly fee or you can purchase a block of credits.

    If this is just a one off request, I don't mind using one of my credits for you. Call me at the office if you'd like my help using the program.

    Good morning all, 

    Although I have conducted about 5,000 closings over the years, I have only very recently opened my own shop. As I understand it, the requirement is to obtain party information, not investigate it. May I ask why you are verifying the TIN/EIN? Is this something you are doing that the customer requested? I have had an inquiry in the past where a newer entity could not remember if they obtained an EIN. In that case, I told them they needed to contact the IRS directly to confirm. Is this something you are doing on all of your files, Connie? Is this something you are doing based on a red flag that was raised somewhere in the file?  More info on the instance and rationale for use of this tool would be helpful.

    We use a company called: TINCheck.com. It cost $1.00 per search.

    This is a valid site but only for verification of employees' SSNs. While you might bend the rules and use it for 1099s, good luck with EINs.

    The IRS has a free TIN matching service that you can use.  The TIN matching service application process is much like the IRS TCC application process (ID ME will need to be established and a responsible official will need to "submit").  You can verify one person/entity at a time or you can submit a batch of information up to 25,000 names and TINs.
