    In North Carolina, the searching and certification of titles for issuance of title insurance is the practice of law and must be done by or under the direct supervision of a licensed North Carolina attorney approved by the underwriters.  G.S. 58-26-1; G.S. 84-2.1.  The penalties for failure to comply include complete forfeiture of all fees and charges, treble damages, and criminal penalties.  So you should be looking for a NC licensed attorney approved by your underwriter.  You can probably ask your agency representative to reach out to the NC agency management for assistance and a referral.  I am sure any of us would be happy to help with locating a NC attorney approved by our companies in the particular area of the search needed.
