I would like to add the following updates:
- The government shutdown has ended, and operations should return to normal shortly.
- The Practitioner Priority Line is operational, though response times may be slower than usual; callers are able to get through.
- Form 8288-A submissions are being processed in a timely manner.
Additionally, as a best practice-not only during a government shutdown but at all times-please send FIRPTA withholding payments via check with tracking. This provides clear evidence that the payment was issued and cleared, as reflected on your bank statement. In the event the IRS issues a notice to the buyer, relying solely on a money order or cashier's check makes it nearly impossible to prove the IRS received and cashed the funds.
