  • 1.  Seeking St. Louis area Chicago Title agent for a seller witness - and Membership Directory frustration

    Posted 02-23-2024 10:01
    First, please pardon my frustration.

I am trying to find a Chicago Title agent in the St. Louis area.  We have a seller that doesn't want to pay for a mobile notary, so we are trying to find a fellow Chicago Title agent in his area.  You would not think it would be that difficult and usually it isn't but this is proving otherwise.

I turned to the ALTA membership directory.  It is unclear to me why underwriter affiliations would be kept under lock and key.  I was redirected to the Registry for which you have to have a subscription to get the information.  I registered yesterday and have not received so much as a confirmation email.  I called the registry phone number and sat on hold for 5 minutes before receiving a recording that the service was unavailable.  I called ALTA directly and was transferred to someone who is out of the office and had to leave a message.

If anyone knows an agent in or around St. Louis could you please let me know?  Thank you!

I'm not in St Louis so can't help you there but curious what exactly you are looking for.  You mention the seller doesn't want to pay for a mobile notary,  so I'm guessing they just need to get  docs signed with the few necessary notarizations to close.  If that's the case why the need for a title agent?  They can take the docs that require notarization to either their bank or a local UPS.  If their bank provides this it should be free, UPS will charge whatever the state mandated fee, usually very low $.

Thank you everyone.  We have found an agent thanks to our awesome Agency Rep at FNTG, Chris Kirby.  Thank you so much for your help, Chris!
