Here is a link with some very good information from the State of MN including links to the state statutes. The program is typically geared towards victims of abuse, domestic violence, stalking, etc. Hope this helps!

I am interested in the MN statute, would you please provide citation. I like the fact that the address can be masked by Clerk, title and maybe even the Assessor. This could slow down the seller impersonation scams as well.

We have a program in MN called Safe at Home. Enrollees register and are assigned a P.O. Box which is the only address tied to them in transaction. Title companies and county recorders have a very specific process for recording so the legal and property address are masked from public record.

Thank you Cathy. We'll review our local guidelines & check with underwriters about the property address in the body of the mortgage and the legal description.

Susan,
I hadn't heard of this program until just this minute, so I had to do some research. Here's a link to the states that participate (24 currently) and the statute that sets out the rules in each state. From looking at my own state's guidance, it appears the individual enrolling in the program needs to set it up and then they're provided with a state-issued P.O. Box to use that's not traceable. It doesn't look like the title company has to do anything except perhaps give them the data how to enroll, if they're not already in the program. If they're already in the program, we simply show the P.O.Box on all documents instead of a street address.

We have been asked by a few lenders if we have closed loans using the Address Confidentiality Program. We've read the ALTA guidance but when I called the local Registry of Deeds, they said that they were not set up to comply. Does anyone have any experience with closings under this program? Thanks for your help.
