  • 1.  Recommendation for Legal Description Deed Plotter

    Have you found any software for plotting legal descriptions that you love?

    It's not critical to our function, obviously surveyors handle the brunt of this type of work, but there are times we'd love to plot something to verify/check.  It wouldn't even need to do arcs or any of the advanced descriptors, but being able to enter basic °, ', & " calls, in a less than extremely painful way, would be awesome.

    I've been happy with Map Draw from Informatik.com.  Have been using it for years.  They have a free download you can try.

    We have used, and been happy with, Net Deed Plotter from Greenbriar Graphics forever - from back in the DOS days.  We have in-house title searchers and always plot the descriptions as part of the search, and when we buy a search, we plot theirs too (why does no one plot anymore?!) so it gets a lot of use.  It comes with a nice manual with step by step instructions and examples, and they have a 30-day free trial period.    https://deedplotter.com/

    I use this one also, Greenbrier Graphics Net Deed Plotter.  I find it very easy to use and it does have curve capabilities.  I do have to remember sometimes to center the plot because it doesn't always do so and some of the plot may be off the square your results come up in.

    Deed Plotter Plus has been an industry standard for close to 30 years. Not sure I would say I love it, but it definitely does the job and easy to use.  https://deedplotter.com

    I've used Metes and Bounds for years from Sandy Knoll.  Does the trick.  Nothing fancy.  Was good when I worked the lender side as you could overlap the plot in Google Earth.

    As some others have said, I mainly use Deed Plotter from Greenbrier Graphics (https://deedplotter.com/). 

    I also like MapRight (https://mapright.com/) for plotting on top of satellite imagery.

    As a surveyor, I use TractPlotter.com.  It is a free website. The only downside is it cannot handle curves, so you have to run closure using the Long Chords and then calculate the areas under the chords by hand.

     

    We use it to triple check our field notes before the signed drawings leave the office.

    We use MapDraw from Informatik.
    It generally does a good job, but of course has limitations.
    It can only plot descriptions with bearings.
    A legal description that uses deflection angles is not easily input.
    The advantages are that you can put multiple descriptions on the same drawing, as long as you use a common starting point for the descriptions.  You can also produce a PDF that you have marked up identifying points and calls, including shading areas.  The interface is easy to learn and work with, and can almost be done one handed if you are good at 10-key.
